Artist Mae Wygant, Jacksonville, Oregon

...from her studio in historic Jacksonville, Oregon. Drawing inspiration from Nature, artist Mae Wygant's fertile imagination and mastery of a spectrum of style, medium and technique have produced a diverse array of paintings in genres from very literate to full modern abstract, the style in which she currently finds herself most involved. But style has never limited Mae; it has freed her to express herself throughout her life. An insightful woman with a spark of humor, Mae's observant eye and dramatic understanding of the dynamics of light, shadow, color and form reveal her depth of character, vibrant energy and love of beauty.

Mae Wygant's work garnered the attention of the art community from the start with scholarships and awards and has been juried into many shows, including the San Francisco Art Festival and the Zellerbach Show. She was honored with the acceptance of two works into the Chautauqua National Exhibition of American Art and by invitations to join the National League of Pen Women and the Society of Western Artists. The greatest gift a painter has is the ability to see in more depth than others. To move someone else to paint, or walk, in a garden or by the ocean, and be aware of that beauty is precious, though it may be someone I'll never meet. I hope my paintings give people a sense of the world as a better place.
